I reacted to the work of Paul Cezanne. Cézanne is known for bridging Impressionism and early modern art by focusing less on realistic detail and more on how forms are built. Hhe often used visible, layered brushstroke. In The Basket of Apples, the table, fruit, and bottles seem slightly tilted or uneven in perspective. What stands out is that they're still carefully arranged but they look so natural. Cézanne deliberately experimented with shifting viewpoints in the same composition. This creates a unique sense of movement that I'm drawn to and that I hope to incorporate in my own work. He also reduced objects into basic geometric forms, making it a very important symbol of Cubism. Cézanne was working during a time of rapid industrialization and change in Europe. His shift away from traditional realism reflects a larger cultural movement toward questioning old systems. I find Cezanne interesting, especially his subjects and his use of color. He makes ordinary objects feel analytical and intentional.
